Robin Hoods Bay, once a notorious haven for smugglers, is one of the most picturesque fishing villages in England. The villages higgeldy-piggeldy, tightly packed streets descend from the cliff top to the very edge of the sea. It is claimed that in days of old contraband could pass through the warren of cottages from one end of the village to the other without appearing outside and thus avoiding the prying eyes of her majesties tax officers.
